Different workpiece materials impose vastly different demands on lathe rigidity and power:

  • Low-carbon steel: Avoid low spindle speeds; select models compatible with standard carbide tools.
  • Medium-carbon steel: Select configurations with rigid beds and spindle power ≥7.5 kW; avoid lightweight turrets.
  • Stainless steel/Titanium alloys: Require high-pressure internal cooling systems and specialized coated tools.
